Few patterns hold a place in American homes quite like Franciscan Desert Rose. Since its introduction in 1941, those soft pink blossoms and trailing green leaves have graced Sunday tables, holiday spreads, and china cabinets across generations. This week at Pollyanna’s Antiques, we have a lovely trio of Desert Rose pieces just waiting to join your collection.

The pattern was created by Gladding, McBean & Company at their Glendale, California pottery, and it quickly became one of the best-loved American dinnerware lines of the twentieth century. The hand-painted wild roses are set against a warm cream body with a gently embossed border, giving each piece a slightly dimensional, almost garden-fresh feel. The pieces in our shop carry that signature soft glow of well-cared-for vintage Franciscan, with the painting still bright and the surfaces lovely and clean.

Three Pieces, So Many Possibilities

Our current grouping includes a generous oval serving platter complete with its original iron hanger, ready to display on a wall or to bring out for the next family dinner. Beside it sits a charming lidded round bowl, perfect as a covered sugar, a candy dish, or a sweet little keepsake jar. Rounding out the trio is a beautifully scalloped serving bowl, just the right size for a side of vegetables, a passed salad, or a Sunday morning fruit bowl.

Whether you are starting a Desert Rose collection, filling in pieces you remember from a grandmother’s table, or simply looking for that one sweet accent to brighten a shelf, these are the kinds of pieces that quietly earn their keep year after year.

Stop by Pollyanna’s Antiques at 287 North Avenue in downtown Mt. Clemens, open Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday from 10 AM to 4 PM, and see them in person.
