Picture an autumn evening, the room going soft and golden as one lamp clicks on and fills the corner with honeyed light. That is exactly the mood this vintage double globe hurricane table lamp brings to Pollyanna’s Antiques, and at 24 inches tall it makes a lovely first impression.
The design goes back to the oil lamps of the Victorian parlor, where a glass font below held the fuel and a globe above softened the flame. Later makers kept that graceful silhouette and electrified it, and collectors often call the style a “Gone with the Wind” lamp after the romantic parlor scenes it brings to mind.
Glass That Glows From Within
Both globes are in a warm amber glass with a gentle luster, and each one is decorated with delicate white flowering branches that seem to drift across the surface. The upper globe opens into a ruffled, crimped rim, a little flourish of clear glass that catches the light like lace. When the lamp is lit, the blossoms stand out in silhouette against the glow.
The metalwork deserves its own moment. A pierced filigree ring cradles the upper globe, and the whole lamp rests on an ornate cast base of deep scrolls and curling feet, finished in a dark bronze tone that grounds all that shimmering glass.
Set it on a side table in a front room, a bedroom dresser, or an entry console, and it becomes a gentle glow to come home to. It suits a cottage or farmhouse space as well as a more formal Victorian room.
Come see this beauty in person at Pollyanna’s Antiques, 287 North Avenue in downtown Mt. Clemens. We’re open Wednesday, Friday and Saturday from 10 to 4, and we’d love to show you how it shines.
